Making Better Decisions Without a Data Team
By Nakel Nikiema, Founder & President
Many managers are told to "be data-driven," yet few have an analyst on call. Good decisions do not require a data department. They require a habit: asking the right question, finding the information that matters, judging how reliable it is, and acting with clear reasoning.
Four questions to ask before any important decision
What exactly are we deciding? Write the decision in one sentence, with the options on the table.
What information would change our mind? Focus on the few figures or facts that actually separate the options.
How much do we trust that information? Check where it came from, how old it is, and what it leaves out.
How will we know if we were right? Agree on what you will measure afterwards, so the next decision is better informed.
Where these skills come from
These questions summarize the ground covered in BIIM's Decision Intelligence Program, seven self-paced courses:
Foundations of Business & Decision Intelligence
Data Literacy for Decision-Makers
Turning Data into Decisions: Analysis & Interpretation
Dashboards & Reporting Essentials
Evidence-Based Decision-Making for Organizations
Monitoring, Evaluation & Impact Measurement
Decision Intelligence for Nonprofits & Mission-Driven Organizations
No advanced technical background is needed; the program builds from the ground up. Each course includes video lessons, teaching text and a course quiz, and you earn a certificate of completion when you finish. Anyone can check a BIIM certificate at biim.education/verify using the certificate ID or QR code.
How to start
Courses are $149 each, or $599 for the full seven-course program. Teams of 3 or more people from the same organization receive a 15% group rate. See Pricing or explore the Decision Intelligence Program.
BIIM (Business Intelligence Institute of Management) was authorized by Burkina Faso's Ministry of Education (2016) and formed in the United States in 2018. Its founder, Nakel Nikiema, brings 30+ years of experience.
